Lynndie England's trial isn't her trial?

According to a NPR news report by Ari Shapiro, England's judge wanted to make sure her guilty plea wasn't coerced by her defense attorney. The judge told England "This is your trial" and then her defense attorney 'tersley' replied "I don't know that it is." The attorney's comment wasn't explained and it has baffled me ever since hearing the story. I searched for another report of this but could not find one. The closest I came was an article that quoted the judge's part. "I want you to know that this is your trial."

Listen to the NPR news story.
